Columbus Clippers and Crew Off To A Strong Spring

The 2010 Triple-A National Champion Columbus Clippers are in the midst of an 11-game winning streak in 2011 with Sunday’s 9-3 win over Charlotte. The Clippers used a six run sixth inning to carry them and are now 7-2 at Huntington Park. The Clippers won their eleventh game in a row, and look to extend it to twelve at 7:15 p.m. today. Columbus owns the best record in the league right now and are in first place with a three game lead in the International West division.

The Columbus Crew ran their unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-1 victory over Vancouver on Saturday in front of almost 12,000 fans in its first-ever game against the expansion Vancouver Whitecaps Saturday at Crew Stadium.  Emilio Rentería scored twice in a nine-minute span in the second half to lead the Black & Gold to victory as the team improved to 3-1-3 on the season and 3-0-1 at home.  That record is tied for third in the Eastern Conference with 12 points and the point total is tied for fourth highest in the entire league.
