COLUMBUS AWARDED TWO MORE MAJOR SPORTING EVENTS FOR 2012 continued

                                                                                                  This March, the Olympic Trials and National Championships will be the highlight of the Arnold Weightlifting Championships, an event that debuted in 2003 and has grown to be one of the Arnold Sports Festival’s most popular events. In partnership with the Columbus Weightlifting Club, the competition will have more than 200 athletes in 15 body weight categories vying for berths on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team that will compete in London.

In partnership with the Ohio Valley Region of USA Volleyball, this booking represents the largest event in the history of the GCSC based on hotel room nights, with over 40,000 and an estimated $25 million dollars in visitor spending for our local economy in 2012. The USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships attract nearly 9,500 athletes and more than 20,000 spectators annually. The tournament crowns 19 champions in age divisions ranging from 12 to 18. This event showcases the top talent from across the nation and draws hundreds of college recruiters looking for the next stars for their programs.
